The Plant Centre, Tea Room and Garden Shop
Our Plant Centre is a little different from most others. We attract visitors from all around the world, many of whom travel thousands of miles to visit the home of the English Roses. We aim to make sure that all gardeners and rose lovers will enjoy their visit, from complete beginners to the most experienced. Expert staff are always on hand to help and advise visitors in any way they require.
Opening Times
We are open from 9am to 5pm, seven days a week. Groups are welcome by prior arrangement.
David Austin Gift Experiences
Our gift experiences are designed to encourage gardeners to learn more about caring for their roses in a friendly, informal environment. Gift Experiences are held at the Plant Centre and are led by Diana Perry.

Roses
Container roses
(available all year round)
Our container rose collection is one of the most extensive and interesting to be found anywhere in the UK. Around four hundred varieties are available all year round, including a superb selection of climbing roses. Container roses available in the Plant Centre are individually priced and are around £2 more than bare root roses.
Bare root roses
(available from November to March)
We are unique in offering a wide selection of bare root roses for sale at the plant centre between November and March. Orders placed for bare root roses from the catalogue may be collected from the plant centre by prior arrangement.
Specimen Roses
To make an instant impact, you may like to choose one of our large specimen plants, available for collection in season from the nursery. These include ramblers, climbers and standard roses in 10 or 15 litre containers.
Other Plants
Plant Collection
Our passion for gardening has inspired us to build a wonderful collection of all types of plants here at our plant centre. Our collection covers every type of plant you could want to create the complete garden, including many unusual, interesting and more difficult to find specimens.
Herbaceous Perennials
We stock a steadily expanding range of fine perennials, including many spectacular new cultivars as well as classic garden favourites. The collection contains a wide selection of reliable plants for all soil types and aspects. We have varieties suitable for every garden situation, including dry conditions in full sun and for woodland gardens in shade.
Shrubs
Shrubs are the backbone of any large garden, providing structure and colour. The extensive collection includes all the classic garden shrubs you might require. Our topiary collection features holly, bay, box and viburnum.
Trees
We have a small range of what we consider to be the most interesting trees that cover most gardening needs. These include ornamental trees selected for their ability to provide glorious autumnal foliage and varieties which provide prolific spring or autumn blossom.
Climbing Plants
Many climbing plants are available to help create height and interest in the garden. We keep a large stock of clematis, including some of the more unusual species and many beautiful large-flowered cultivars.
Gift shop
David Austin’s traditional tea rooms are housed in a half-framed building with exposed oak beams, creating a very special atmosphere. Our garden shop has recently been extended and relocated in a new custom-designed space. We stock high quality gardening requisites, items for the conservatory, stationary, toiletries and homewares, many with a gardening or rose theme. Seasonal gifts are available to celebrate special occasions. We offer an excellent range of horticultural books.
Licensed Tea Room
(open 9.30am to 4.30pm with lunches available from midday to 2.30pm)
From June to August, during the peak flowering season, we offer a selection of freshly prepared lunchtime platters. In fine weather, visitors can enjoy a glass of wine with their lunch on the sun-terrace, surrounded by fragrant roses.
From September to May, we offer delicious home-made meals. These are lovingly prepared to exacting standards, using fresh local ingredients where possible, according to the season.
We offer stylish afternoon teas, available by prior reservation only. These are available throughout the year, served on English Redoute China at your table, which will be decorated with garden roses and rose petals.
Our special afternoon teas include fine English tea, smoked salmon and cucumber and free range egg and cress sandwiches, with freshly baked scones and a selection of sweet pastries or delicious cakes. Served at 3pm, traditional high teas make a wonderful birthday or anniversary celebration. £12.95 per person. Please contact us to reserve your table.
At special times of the year, our menu changes to reflect seasonal produce and themes. For example our popular Festive Afternoon Teas are served in the weeks leading up to Christmas. These include toasted fruit teacakes, chocolate and cranberry mini Christmas puddings, iced Christmas cake and mince pies.
