Pruning Sessions
Gift vouchers for our January Pruning Sessions can be purchased all year round. The dates for our January 2014 sessions will be published, here on our website, later this year.
Pruning roses is a subject which often raises great debate. At David Austin Roses, we believe that pruning roses should be a simple, enjoyable and creative process. That's why we created our Pruning Sessions, the ideal gift for any gardener who would like help to get the best performance from their roses. Winter pruning is important for the well-being of your plants, as it stimulates the growth of new shoots which will provide flowers next season. Pruning also helps to improve the health, vigour and structure of the plant by removing any old, woody or weak shoots.
Our half-day experiences will teach you how to encourage your roses to form shapely, bushy shrubs by following a few straightforward tips. We’ll teach you how to control the height of the more vigorous English Roses and demonstrate how summer pruning may be used to encourage them to repeat flower more quickly. No prior knowledge is required, as our expert Diana Perry will guide you step by step through the process. Please bring secateurs, gloves and outdoor clothing to enable you to take part in the practical sessions. All attendees will receive 10% off the price of any purchases in our plant centre and gift shop on the day of the session.
Itinerary The morning session begins at 10am with coffee and pastries, followed by an informative talk about pruning, then supervised time to practice your skills out in the garden. If you choose the afternoon session, this will commence at 2pm with the talk followed by the practice period in the garden, finishing at 3.30pm with tea and scones. We appreciate prior reservations as places are limited.
